All youth athletes have the opportunity to get significant playing time on our sports teams.
Youth athletes develop at different rates. Coordination can take time. Some have drive, some don't realize what drive is. It is up to the coach to lead by example and show the young athlete how to train, how to play the game, how to maintain discipline. It is up to the youth athlete to show up, listen and put the work in.
I believe that youth athletes develop exponentially when they put time and effort into drills and have significant game repetitions. I believe coaches should nurture confidence in the young athlete and put them in situations where they can be successful. Success will breed success. Once the young athlete gains confidence and believes in themself they can develop to their full potential. It is up to the coach to foster this development.
Many coaches focus on winning games above all else. That ideology keeps less skilled players on the bench, thus leaving too many youth athletes behind. I believe, for youth sports, there should be opportunity for the skilled athlete and the less skilled athlete as long as they are willing to put the work in.
I believe you win the mind, win the athlete, then you can win at anything. You can focus on the little wins; a good tackle, proper technique, a good block, a nice pass, etc. Build on those wins to create a winning environment, a winning team.
Whether it's game reps, skill development, or just learning tools to be competent and capable; I am willing to put in the work, in order to help any youth athlete who needs it and shows a desire to work.
I am an active athlete that competes in events where there is no second place. There is only winning. I understand winning at all costs. But, I am an adult. Children are different. Building confidence should be the goal.

Email sent to my fellow coaching staff
In 2022 I was part of the coaching staff for our 6th grade football team. This email was met with agreement but nothing ever changed.
Change must happen at the TOP. Set the example and others will follow.
